Game StoryLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Hideo Nomo earned his first win at Dodger Stadium in almost four years and Brian Jordan and Dave Hansen drove in two runs apiece as the Los Angeles Dodgers posted a 5-2 victory over the San Diego Padres.
Nomo (2-2) allowed two runs and four hits over 7 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking one en route to his first victory here since April 28, 1998. In his second stint with Los Angeles, the Japanese righthander improved to 26-19 lifetime at Dodger Stadium.
"Today they scored five runs for me and I am thankful for that," Nomo said through an interpreter. "I just want to continue the pitching I've done to this point."
"You can't say enough about Nomo," Los Angeles catcher Paul Lo Duca said. "He has given us three straight great outings. Tonight, he had a great splitfinger. He threw some good curveballs and had command of his fastball."
Los Angeles starters have held the opposition to two earned runs or less in 12 of the last 14 games.
"Another tremendous effort for our starting pitcher," Dodgers manager Jim Tracy said. "The beauty of tonight is that five days ago Nomo was out there against the same lineup. They've seen him for 100 pitches, a few times through the order. He was pretty much able to repeat the performance (when he allowed one run and four hits in 6 1/3 innings on Sunday vs. San Diego). I think tonight's effort was even better because he didn't labor as much."
After Paul Quantrill struck one got one out in the eighth, Eric Gagne pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his seventh save. He has not allowed a run in 10 appearances.
"I threw strikes," Gagne said. "You gotta throw strikes early and get ahead. I throw all of my pitches for strikes so you can't sit on anything."
Brian Lawrence (2-1), who had his 16 inning scoreless streak come to an end in the first inning, gave up three runs and five hits over seven innings. He suffered his first loss in three decisions against Los Angeles.
"I pitched decent, just not good enough," Lawrence said. "It came down to the 0-2 pitches that I just didn't make (to Roberts in the first and fourth innings)."
Dave Roberts drove in a run and Shawn Green had two hits and scored a run for the Dodgers, who have won 10 of 14.
Rookie Sean Burroughs hit his first major league homer in the fifth inning for San Diego.
Lawrence hit Roberts with a pitch to start the game and Cesar Izturis singled. Both runners advanced on Lo Duca's bunt and, after Green was intentionally walked, Roberts scored on Jordan's forceout. Hansen followed with an infield single to second base, plating Izturis and giving Los Angeles a 2-0 lead.
"Brian Lawrence is a tough pitcher," Roberts said "Runs against him are at a premium, so to score one right there (in the first inning) is big.
"For me, it doesn't matter how I get on base. That's my role. When I get on base, it picks us up."
The Dodgers added a run in the fourth. With one out, Adrian Beltre tripled to left-center field to extend his hitting streak to 11 games, but was thrown out at home after Mark Grudzielanek's fielder's choice to second base. After Nomo walked, Roberts had an RBI single to right.
Burroughs, playing in his 13th major league game, cut San Diego's deficit to two runs when he smacked a 1-0 pitch from Nomo over the right field wall.
"It was my first home run, so that's special," Burroughs said. "Hopefully I can build on that."
The Padres moved within one run in the eighth as Ramon Vazquez opened the inning with a single and went to second on Tom Lampkin's foulout. Quantrill relieved Nomo and struck out pinch hitter Mark Sweeney, but D'Angelo Jimenez hit an run-scoring double to left. After walking Mark Kotsay, Quantrill was replaced by Gagne, who struck out Phil Nevin to end the inning.
"You can't pitch much better than the sequence he had to Phil Nevin," Tracy said. "(Gagne) saved the game right there in the eighth."
In the bottom of the eighth, Green doubled with one out off reliever Jason Boyd and scored on Brian Jordan's triple to left. Jordan came home on Hansen's sacrifice fly.
